Laurel Skye, mosaic artist
"Creating Peace by Piece" Laurel Skye Design Studio, Arcata CA
about the mosaic artist "I tile the way I teach. I always ask first, "how do you want your piece to feel?" Once I know that, and get a 'vision of the way you want it to feel', everything else falls into place. Keep returning to your vision and you can't go wrong."
about the mosaic arts project "This was one of the most gratifying (and challenging) pieces I have ever done. It was a spiritual experience. Working the intricacies of his eyes, nose, thumbnails and folds of his robe.... I was in bliss. I used vitreous glass and gold smalti."
mosaic glass tile used "Carter Glass mosaic tile. In the border of his robe I used a sunrise yellow from Carter Glass Mosaics."
why hakatai "Hakatai offers a broad color spectrum. As an artist, having as many shades as possible available to me is of great value. The blues and greens, particulary, have helped me many times with delicate shading and contouring. In the Buddha, the yellow afforded me the perfect accent color to contrast his rather dark robe."
